I don’t support the killing thing, but dude, what the hell are you saying? Seriously. I scream internally everytime I see the fourth point.
”[…] they fought against us and LOST in WW2 […]”
I’m not that good at History, but even I know that they didn’t fight against each other, they were allies, for God’s sake, how can’t you know it?
That’s why I say: If you want to give your opinion about something, do researches, read and understand it, know what you’re criticizing. If you do all this, you’ll be able to do a plausible argument, and even if people disagree with you, then will respect your opinion, because isn’t bullshit. But even if you do that, the fourth one don’t make sense, even if you try to make a good argument, this won’t happen, because, like I said, it just don’t make sense. Superiority of an ethnicity/nation? Right, U.S. is a great power (actually is starting to lose it’s position of the biggest great power, but still have a great influence) but it’s not a reason for you to say that everything that comes from there is better than if came from another nation. What race are you? Human, right? Then why do you act like if you were a God, talking about how superior you, your nation, and what comes from there is superior? If we all are the same race, why do you think you are superior?
Until the third point, your opinion is acceptable, I disagree and I think you could express yourself better, but it’s still okay for me, they’re valid points. I already said how fourth is bullshit, and now the fifth one. Man, it’s normal you don’t understand some words when reading a book, you can’t know them all, but you can learn them, searching it’s meaning, expanding your vocabulary.
“You shouldn’t have to use a fucking SLANG DICTIONARY when reading!!!”
I totally disagree. As I said, you can learn them, the only way to do it is by using a dictionary. Reading isn’t only fun, yes you can read only for fun, but you can also read to learn, expand your horizons, discover new things, understand a person and how does he/she feel. That’s why books are so amazing. Please, just don’t be so closed-minded.
Yes, I wrote too much, sorry for annoying my followers with so much text, but it was necessary.
reblogging again because Persiko is awesome
OH MY GOD, I just need to rant the fuck out of this. Hem hem.
1. Too much swearing? Really? I mean, okay, so Molly goes all-out against Bellatrix ONCE during the last book. But seriously, WHO WOULDN’T?! I mean, how would YOU react if your own daughter was in such danger and being aimed at by an infamous criminal known to kill mercilessly and have fun with it?! And honestly, you can’t POSSIBLY consider “bloody hell” a curse. If anything, it’s mild. I’ve heard much worse on TV before child protection time is over. Your logic is flawed and, if anything, the very mild amount of cursing only adds to the reality of the book. I’d bet my life that you curse on a daily basis and using MUCH worse words. And heck, some curse words are fucking commonplace. So what, do you expect to place your children in a big plastic anti-real-world bubble so that they won’t be exposed or something? I didn’t think so.
2. People die. It is okay and it is natural. Whatever path we choose in life, whatever we do, however long we choose to live… everyone’s life ends in death. That’s just how life works, and denying that won’t get you anywhere. Nobody wants to read about death, nobody wants to accept it, mainly because we’re all scared of death because it’s a mystery, it’s the unknown. But you know what the Harry Potter books have taught me? To the well-organised mind, death is but the next great adventure. Thanks, Dumbledore, we all love you. I don’t know about you guys, but that phrase has given me much to think about over the years. Granted, some deaths haven’t been ideal, and if anything, I’m at an eternal war against book seven because I refuse to accept Fred’s death… but pretending that death doesn’t happen is just plain idiotic. Also, good guys die too. What, did you expect all of the Death Eaters to die but for the good guys to take no casualties whatsoever? Give me a fucking break, that’s just wishful thinking, idealistic, and not real. Whenever have you heard of a war that is won with no casualties on one side, but heavy casualties on the other? Never. That’s right. Because it just doesn’t happen.
3. You don’t say! Of course torturing and killing people is wrong. But we all know Voldemort is delusional, power-thirty and very much a psycho… and heck, they are the bad guys. Of course they are going to do bad things. That’s what bad guys do. Bad things. That’s why we call them the bad guys and everything, you know? Did you expect them to go around hugging trees, kissing muggles and sheltering furry little kittens that were left outside in cardboard boxes? No, of course not. Whatever cruel practices they all engage in merely contribute to character formation, showing us just how terrible these people really are and how much they deserve to have a cell in Azkaban with their names on it. Also, I have no idea where you got the idea that they get “turned on” by torturing and killing. Enjoyment does not necessarily derive in arousal, thank you very much.
4. HAHAHAHAHA are you kidding? I mean, honestly, you really need to do your research properly before you speak. YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID TIMES ONE MILLION. Also, you need to shut your stupid American ass up. You’re so full of yourself. What you just said… it’s racist, it’s offensive, and it’s most definitely NOT okay. Since when is American stuff better than British stuff?! ESPECIALLY when it comes to writing? Come on, some of the best writers in HISTORY were British! Think Shakespeare, George Orwell, JRR Tolkien, Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, Charles Dickens, George Wells! And you’re honestly telling me that that piece of- ….. book, Twilight, is better than all of those great authors just because it’s an American book? No offense, but you’re retarded.
On the other hand, get your History facts right, please. The USA and England never fought against each other during WWII. In fact, if you will please recall, they were allies and worked together towards the D-Day, the liberation of France. America was a great ally and power, and it was key for the Allied Forces’ victory against the Axis Powers.
By the way, America -which, incidentally, is not really America; America is the whole continent, you know? Your country is actually the United States of America, but I shall still refer to it as America in this rant for practicity’s sake- is neither the most advanced nor the most powerful country in the world. As far as advanced goes, I’ll hand that to the Asians, mainly China, Japan and Hong Kong. As for the most powerful country in the world, I’m sorry to inform you that America is slowly losing its grip on power and its place as the “most powerful nation”. Besides, excuse my asking, but what does nation power have to do with anything? We’re talking about quality here, about writing skills and just how amazing Jo Rowling is and what a wonderful job she did of making a whole generation appreciate the wonders of reading, and how enjoyable it is.
You need to get over yourself. America’s not better at everything, and whoever truly believes that is seriously retarded and a jerk.
5. *Confusing, with an n. And no, it’s not confusing. I myself am Argentinian -that means English is not my native language, it’s Spanish- and I’ve read all of the books in British English because I feel translations generally suck. I had no trouble whatsoever understanding the books or any “slang” words in it. And if I did, I could always figure out the meaning from context, or get a dictionary and look it up.
You know what’s great about books? They aren’t only amazing and enjoyable, but they are also an unending source of knowledge. You learn new words, new vocabulary just by reading a little bit every day. You get to know about other cultures, other countries; you let your imagination fly and transport you to completely different worlds… but the whole point of reading is to broaden your horizons. Personally, I find nothing more enjoyable than a challenging book, one that’s so complex, so taxing, that I have to read a paragraph twice to understand it. The richness in the vocabulary, the constructions, everything is just perfect. Simple books bore me. If I wanted to read simple books, I’d stick to my little cousins’ bedtime stories. But as I’ve said, the whole point of reading is to broaden your horizons and enrich your vocabulary, your mind. Consider it mental exercise. You should enjoy discovering new words, not complain because you have to look for a dictionary. After a while, you find yourself using those new words in an everyday context, and it’s just an amazing feeling, don’t you think?
I don’t mean to be disrespectful or anything, but…. you really need to get things straight before opening your mouth. Twilight can NEVER be better than Harry Potter, that’s a fact. Even Stephen King has said so. I choose to believe Stephen King. After all, he’s a great author too. And by the way, he’s American.
/end rant.
Excuse me, just posting this here because I can. That’s me ranting there, now COME AT ME, BRO.
Also, I’m sorry Gryffindorpride is kinda dead D= Don’t expect posts on it anytime soon =/ Or ever again. Maybe very rarely, but yeah, it’s pretty much dead, so feel free to unfollow if you so wish to do.
